The first public images of Barcelona’s controversial new kit design have been seen on Twitter [This photo is credited to: @jesusmalaga].
In December, the Catalan daily SPORT leaked the news that Nike had decided on a revolutionary design that would radically change from La Blaugrana’s traditional striped shirts to a new one which features hoops.
The Senyera (the Catalan flag) has been incorporated into the shirt’s design by being fixed to the inside of the neck.
At no time during the 115-year history of the club have Barcelona worn hoops on their shirts. But it appears one of the most iconic jerseys in sport is being folded up and put away in a locker – for the time being.
The moment the images of the proposed new design became public in December, they were met with immediate disapproval from Barcelona fans worldwide.
Today’s photos (being tweeted by various Twitter accounts) are being met with equal scorn and objection.
Programming note: Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid will be shown LIVE on Sunday starting at 2:55pm EST on BeinSPORTS and DishWorld.
