Bucharest (AFP) – Romania attacking midfielder Nicolae Stanciu has joined Anderlecht on a five-year deal from Steaua Bucharest for a fee that could reach 9.8 million euros ($11m, £8.4m), the Romanian side announced on Sunday.

Steaua owner Gigi Becali revealed that the Belgian club will pay “four million euros now, another 3.8 million in 10 months and an additional 2 million if Stanciu plays in over 50 percent of Anderlecht’s matches over two seasons.”

The 23-year-old Stanciu, who played for Romania at Euro 2016, therefore becomes the most expensive player in Romanian football history. He has already scored four goals for his country in just seven appearances.
