Once again, the Gold Cup final, in its 2025 edition, will feature the two traditional powerhouses of the CONCACAF region: Mexico and the United States. The showdown is set for Sunday, July 6 at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time, taking place at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Mexico, coached by Javier Aguirre, will aim to defend the title they won in 2023 against Panama and could also complete the regional double after lifting the Nations League trophy this past March. This is the last official competition for both teams ahead of the 2026 World Cup, where the U.S. and Mexico will co-host alongside Canada.

Mexico reached the final by defeating Saudi Arabia and Honduras in the knockout rounds, while the United States eliminated Costa Rica and surprise semifinalist Guatemala.

The final will be broadcast on FOX, TUDN, and Univision.

On Wednesday night, Mexico edged Honduras 1–0 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, thanks to a goal from Raúl Jiménez. For the final, El Tri will be without Luis Chávez, who suffered a torn ACL in his right leg and has been ruled out.

Throughout the tournament, Aguirre has successfully implemented a 4-3-3 formation, no longer starting Jiménez and Santiago Giménez together up front.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino’s U.S. squad booked their ticket to the final with a 2–1 win over Guatemala on Wednesday afternoon in St. Louis, with both goals scored by rising star Diego Luna.

Pochettino has had to manage without some of the U.S. national team’s top Europe-based players, including Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah, and Weston McKennie, which has left the American side with reduced attacking firepower.

A Historic Rivalry

Mexico has won the Gold Cup nine times: in 1993, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023.
The United States has claimed seven titles: in 1991, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2013, and 2021.
