The Germany National Team could be traveling stateside to face the United States Men’s National Team in a friendly next summer. It would pit the hosts of Euro 2024 against the co-hosts of the World Cup 2026. Moreover, it would be the 12th meeting all time between the two sides.

There is no confirmation over the date for any potential friendly. Bundesliga commentator Derek Rae reported that Germany head coach Hansi Flick is seriously considering a trip across the Atlantic Ocean in the summer of 2023. It appears all that may be needed is a confirmation of the match date.

During June of 2023, European teams have Euro 2024 qualifying. As the hosts, Germany does not compete in the qualification process.

Instead, it has an automatic spot into the group stages. At the same time, there is no major competition scheduled for the United States in June 2023. Therefore, scheduling presents an opening for Germany to play against a decent USA squad that reached the round of 16 at World Cup 2022. Germany failed to match that feat in its World Cup run.

Germany and USA on verge of summer friendly in 2023

Therefore, a friendly between Germany and the USA would be a welcome sight in this coming Summer. Germany wants to seek out all the exposure to strong sides as it can. Granted, the United States is not as talented or strong as potential Euro 2024 foes such as France, England, Italy or Portugal. Still, the United States gives Germany practice.

As stated, there is no date set. Nor is there a location. Rather, this is simply rumblings of a potential friendly Germany is seeking out in preparation for its Euro 2024 hosting duties.

For the United States, friendlies against European opposition is exactly what this squad needs to take the next step. Plus, Germany is a team that the United States is somewhat familiar with. In 2014, the Germans defeated the Americans en route to their fourth World Cup title. However, on either side of that, the two sides played in friendlies. Interestingly, the USA won both of those friendly affairs.
