Tickets for Wrexham vs Chelsea sell out in four days

Wrexham and Chelsea are playing in North Carolina this summer, but tickets are already snatched up. The general sale of tickets sold out in an eye-popping four days. General sale of tickets only started last week, but those are gone. Granted, tickets are still available via reseller websites. However, this often comes at a premium for those trying to see the game.

The two clubs are playing at Kenan Memorial Stadium, the home of the University of North Carolina Football. With a capacity of 51,000, it is clearly a highly anticipated matchup. Chelsea is one of the Big 6 in England. Despite a remarkably disappointing season, the star talent in the squad is there. Even if fans saw one of the three games Chelsea played in the United States last year, this squad is nearly a wholesale change.

Then, Wrexham continues to grow in popularity in the United States. Rivaling MLS entirely in terms of how popular each is, more and more Americans are interested in seeing what the Welsh club has to offer. Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are pouncing on the growth of the club in the United States, and this is one of a few games the club is involved in.

Even if options are officially sold out, you can still purchase tickets for the July 19 contest in Chapel Hill, NC.

“It’s no surprise that the pairing of global football and one of American college football’s great venues is a hot ticket,” said Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan. “This a must-see match on the summer soccer calendar in America.”

Wrexham and Chelsea have tickets to other games, too

While Chelsea and Wrexham fans in particular are looking forward to this friendly, there are plenty of other games featuring in the schedule of soccer friendlies in the United States this summer. For example, both clubs already have two other games on the docket this summer.

Starting with Chelsea, the Blues have a total of five games in the United States. Three of those are part of the Premier League Summer Series against Fulham, Newcastle and Brighton. However, the Blues also added a friendly against Borussia Dortmund at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL.

Wrexham also has other games in the works. One of those is against the Manchester United academy in San Diego. Just before then, Wrexham is playing the reserve team for LA Galaxy, also in California.

Why are there so few US goalkeepers who are good with their feet?

It wasn't that long ago that US goalkeepers were a common sight in the Premier League, playing first-team soccer week after week. Goalkeeper Brad Friedel made 450 Premier League appearances across several clubs including Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa. Tim Howard made 399 appearances in the Premier League, which included his time at Manchester United […]

30 years of MLS: Why it’s time for the excuses to stop

If I had a nickel for every time I heard an American make an excuse for MLS by saying “Well, the league isn’t as old as other leagues,” I’d be a rich man. Launched in 1996, Major League Soccer is celebrating its 30th season this year. In that time, the league has grown to become […]
