Sergio Ramos has wasted no time making an impact in Liga MX, proving that age is just a number. The 38-year-old Spanish legend was on target once again, scoring his second consecutive goal as Monterrey battled to a 1-1 draw against Cruz Azul on Sunday. The former Real Madrid captain not only found the back of the net, but also delivered a celebration that immediately caught the attention of soccer fans worldwide.

Since arriving in Mexico, Ramos has shown his attacking prowess, particularly in set-piece situations. Just a week after scoring his first Monterrey goal with a header against Santos Laguna, he repeated the feat against Cruz Azul, giving his team the lead in the 12th minute.

The goal came from a perfectly placed cross by fellow Spaniard Sergio Canales, who had also assisted Ramos’ first goal. Rising above the defense with his signature aerial ability, the Spanish veteran powered a header past the goalkeeper, sending the Monterrey fans into celebration.

While his impact on Rayados’ backline was expected, his goalscoring form has been a pleasant surprise, adding an extra dimension to the team’s attack.

Cristiano Ronaldo-style celebration sparks reactions

After scoring, Ramos ran toward the corner flag and replicated Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous “Siuuu” celebration, a tribute to his former Real Madrid teammate. The iconic jump and spin, followed by the celebratory shout, ignited excitement among his Monterrey teammates and the fans in attendance.

It was a nod to the years the two superstars shared at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning multiple La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles together. The celebration quickly went viral on social media, with fans reminiscing about the duo’s golden era at Madrid.

Monterrey pushed for a winner and even had a goal from German Berterame ruled out, but they couldn’t break through Cruz Azul’s defense. The draw meant Monterrey stayed in ninth place in the Liga MX Clausura standings, while Cruz Azul moved up to fifth place, overtaking Necaxa.

On March 12, Monterrey will play host to the Vancouver Whitecaps in the second leg of their Round of 16 CONCACAF Champions Cup match (1-1 on aggregate).
