AC Milan staged a comeback from a 2-0 deficit to draw 2-2 against Fiorentina in Matchday 31 of the 2024-25 Serie A season. However, concerns are mounting in the forward position after Santiago Gimenez suffered an injury just 25 minutes into the game and had to be substituted.

After a challenging first half that ended 2-1 in favor of Fiorentina, Milan sought a strong start to the second half. Gimenez, who was subbed in during the 55th minute for Tammy Abraham, witnessed Milan’s equalizer, with Luka Jovic scoring in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, Gimenez’s time on the pitch was cut short.

In the 76th minute, Christian Pulisic sent a long ball toward Gimenez, who attempted to exploit space behind the defensive line. However, Fiorentina goalkeeper David De Gea came out of the box to intercept, colliding with Gimenez, who fell awkwardly on his left side.

Visibly in pain, Gimenez was attended to by Milan’s medical staff. Though he initially returned to the game, he collapsed to the ground moments later, clutching his left intercostal area and knee. In the 80th minute, he was substituted for Joao Félix.

AC Milan has not yet provided details on the severity of the injury that forced Gimenez off the pitch. Coach Sergio Conceicao will be hopeful that the Mexican forward can recover in time for Milan’s next match against Udinese on Friday.

Milan, without Gimenez and Abraham

Despite salvaging a point after trailing 2-0, Milan faced further setbacks in the striker position. Tammy Abraham had to be subbed off in the 55th minute due to a muscular injury, while Gimenez’s injury followed shortly after.

With both forwards unavailable, Conceicao is left with only Jovic as his remaining striker option. The Serbian, sidelined for much of the season, has begun to find his form again, scoring back-to-back goals against Napoli last week and Fiorentina on Sunday. His resurgence could provide a crucial boost for Milan as they cope with mounting injuries.
