Mohamed Salah is having one of his best seasons since joining Liverpool, and with plenty of games left, he continues to shatter records. With his brace against Southampton, the Egyptian star has now matched a stunning all-time Premier League milestone.

As Liverpool push for their second Premier League title, they hosted Southampton on Matchday 29. Despite the visitors opening the scoring, the Reds mounted a magnificent comeback—first with a goal from Darwin Nuñez, followed by two penalty goals from Salah.

With this latest masterclass, Mohamed Salah has equaled Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero as the foreign player with the most goals in Premier League history. The Argentine striker scored 184 goals for Manchester City, while Salah has now reached the same tally—scoring two for Chelsea before adding 182 for Liverpool.

With several competitions still in play—including the Premier League, domestic cups, and the Champions League—Salah is on track to break the record outright. So far, across all competitions, he has 32 goals and 22 assists in 41 matches, missing just four games this season due to planned rest.

As Liverpool contend for the league title and emerge as Champions League favorites, fans are beginning to dream of a Ballon d’Or season for their talisman. With his contract situation still uncertain, Salah has nine more Premier League games to surpass Aguero and claim the record as his own.

Salah’s ever-growing legacy

After an explosive first season at Liverpool, some doubted whether Salah could maintain his elite level in the top flight. However, he has silenced the critics, producing a historic campaign at 32 years old.

With 27 goals and 17 assists in 29 Premier League games, Salah now ranks among the players with the most goal contributions in a single Premier League season under its current format (38 games). He is tied with Thierry Henry (44 – 24G/20A) and Erling Haaland (44 – 36G/8A), while the all-time record holders remain Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole (47), though their achievements came in the old 22-team format.

Additionally, Salah has now surpassed Gordon Hodgson to become Liverpool’s third all-time top scorer with 243 goals. While Roger Hunt (285) and Ian Rush (346) remain ahead of him, Salah’s impact at Anfield and in Premier League history is now firmly cemented.
