As they continue to experience the most successful era in their history, Manchester City are focusing on building a long-term roster. Earlier this year, they extended Erling Haaland‘s contract through 2034, and now they are reportedly ready to present a major new offer to Rodri, the latest recipient of the Ballon d’Or.
“Manchester City are set to offer new contract to Rodri valid until June 2029,” transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported Tuesday on his X account. “City want to show their trust in Rodri with new deal almost ready to be offered.”
Rodri is currently under contract with the Citizens through June 30, 2027. That previous extension was signed in 2022, when the Spanish midfielder was already a key piece of the team but hadn’t yet achieved the superstar status he now holds. It wasn’t until the UEFA Champions League title in 2023 and the Ballon d’Or awarded to him in October 2024 that he truly gained global recognition.
In light of that rise, Manchester City now appear ready to secure Rodri’s future for an additional four seasons, along with a substantial salary increase that reflects his elevated role on the pitch.

Erling Haaland is Manchester City’s highest-paid player.
How much could Rodri earn at Manchester City?
Expanding on Fabrizio Romano’s report, Diario AS provided further details regarding the potential figures involved in the 29-year-old’s new contract. “The contract extension offer presented to Rodri could raise his weekly salary from £180,000 to £300,000,” the Spanish outlet reported.

This means Rodri’s current contract pays him approximately $12.4 million per year. Should he accept the new offer Manchester City are reportedly preparing, he would earn around $20.7 million annually. Over the course of four years, the total value of the deal would exceed $80 million.
Haaland is Manchester City’s highest-paid player
The massive offer Manchester City are reportedly ready to make underscores Rodri’s value to the squad. Still, it wouldn’t be enough to surpass the salary of the team’s top star. “He could become the second best paid player after Haaland,” Fabrizio Romano said of Rodri.
Indeed, the reported $20.7 million per year that the Citizens are prepared to offer would make Rodri the second-highest-paid player on the roster — still far behind Erling. Haaland signed a massive contract renewal earlier this year, keeping him with the club through June 30, 2034.
According to Spotrac, the deal guarantees Haaland $273 million total, averaging $27.3 million per season. It’s considered one of the most lucrative contracts in soccer history — not only because of the high salary, but also the extraordinary length of the agreement.
