Liverpool and Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk could be set for a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) this summer, ending his decade-long Premier League career, according to L’Equipe. With his contract expiring alongside those of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk is reportedly considering an MLS move, attracted by the American culture.

This follows a report from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal who reportedly made a €20 million offer. He has won several major trophies with Liverpool, including the Premier League title and Champions League.

Van Dijk’s potential move might not be an isolated incident. Manchester City captain Kevin De Bruyne, whose contract is also expiring, has been linked with San Diego FC.

Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, long rumored to be considering an MLS move, could join Los Angeles FC, reuniting with former France teammates Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud. Griezmann’s decision regarding a move will be made in March, according to reports.

Griezmann’s potential move to LAFC and long-term plan

Griezmann’s potential move to LAFC would mark the culmination of a long-held desire to end his career in America. He previously expressed admiration for American sports culture and the relative anonymity he could enjoy in the U.S.

This follows similar expressions of interest from other players regarding a possible move to the MLS. The player’s statements highlight his interest in exploring the opportunity to play in America. The prospect of joining Lloris and Giroud could influence his decision.

Paul Pogba’s MLS options

World Cup winner Paul Pogba, currently a free agent and recently cleared of a doping ban, is another European star potentially heading to MLS. Having visited BMO Stadium and spoken with David Beckham, a move to Inter Miami is a possibility.

However, Pogba’s desire to boost his chances of making France’s 2026 World Cup squad might lead him to prioritize a European club, making an MLS transfer unlikely. The player’s decision may be influenced by his desire to secure a place in the World Cup squad, which could be more challenging playing in the MLS. This means that he may prefer to play in Europe to maximize his chances of getting picked.
