Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch is once again on a shortlist for yet another coaching job. Since his sacking in February, the American interviewed for two Premier League managerial positions. However, neither the deal with Southampton nor Leicester City panned out. Now, Marsch is under consideration at Olympiacos.

Sport-FM, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, is claiming that the Greek club is contemplating hiring Marsch. However, the news outlet is reporting that former AC Milan and Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso is currently the front runner for the position.

Southampton, Leicester moves never materialized

Marsch was seemingly close to taking the Southampton job soon after departing Leeds in February. Nevertheless, after lengthy negotiations, the American coach walked away from the South Coast club. The belief was the length of contract Southampton offered did not align with Marsch’s desires. Ruben Selles has instead taken over at the helm with Southampton.

Leicester City also interviewed Marsch for their managerial opening earlier this month. The Foxes, despite their talented squad, currently sit in the relegation zone. Marsch reportedly had reservations about his fit with Leicester, particularly if the club was relegated into the Championship at the end of the season.

Jesse Marsch has opportunity with shortlist for Greek job

Olympiacos is arguably the top team in Greece. After all, the Erythrolefki have collected a record 47 domestic top flight titles in their illustrious history. However, they have endured a bit of down campaign during 2022/23. The club is currently on their fourth head coach of the season and finished third in the regular season standings.

Evangelos Marinakis owns the Greek club, as well as Premier League side Nottingham Forest. While Marinakis has stuck beside Steve Cooper at Forest, he is notorious for interchanging coaches in Greece. Since purchasing the club in 2010, Olympiacos cycled through 20 permanent and caretaker managers. That list includes managers like Ernesto Valverde, Carlos Corberan, Paulo Bento, Marco Silva and more.

Along with Marsch and Gattuso, Olympiacos has interest in Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
