At 40 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to defy logic, racking up goals and headlines in equal measure. His future, however, remains the subject of intense speculation. As the soccer world watches and wonders where the next chapter in his glittering career will unfold, conflicting reports have emerged over whether he has agreed to extend his stay at Al-Nassr.
Earlier this week, Ronaldo posted a cryptic message on social media—one that many interpreted as a subtle farewell. But just as rumors of his exit gained momentum, fresh reports suggest that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner may have performed a dramatic U-turn.
From farewell to renewal?
The drama surrounding Ronaldo’s next move has taken another twist. According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Portuguese icon has agreed to a new two-year deal with Al-Nassr, extending his contract until 2027. This would mean Ronaldo will continue playing in the Saudi Pro League until he turns 42.
“Ronaldo has agreed to a new two-year contract, keeping him in Riyadh until 2027,” Tavolieri reported, adding that Fernando Hierro, the club’s sporting director, played a pivotal role in the negotiations.
If confirmed, this deal would be a significant win for Al-Nassr. Despite missing out on both the Asian Champions League and the Club World Cup, the club would retain its most recognizable asset. Ronaldo’s presence continues to bring not only goals—33 of them last season—but also unmatched global visibility.
But not everyone agrees that the deal is done.
Other side of the story
In sharp contrast, Italian journalist Nicolo Schira poured cold water on the renewal claims. According to Schira, Ronaldo has not yet signed any contract extension and remains open to other offers. The legendary forward is reportedly in no rush, opting instead to assess his options carefully.
“Despite the last rumors, Cristiano Ronaldo has not signed the contract extension with Al-Nassr yet,” he wrote. “CR7 wants to wait and is evaluating some bids received.”
The Portuguese’s current deal with Al-Nassr is set to expire on June 30, 2025, and although the club has publicly expressed a desire to retain him, he has been linked with other teams—including Saudi rivals Al-Hilal, Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca and even Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, all of which will participate in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
