Bayern Munich and Auckland City FC kicked off Day 2 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in Group C action at TQL Stadium. The German giants put on a clinic, thrashing their opponents 10-0. But does this result mark the biggest win in the tournament’s history?

Auckland City lined up in a deep, defensive block with five at the back and four midfielders in an attempt to neutralize Bayern’s attacking firepower. But the Bundesliga champions, even with a mixed starting XI, proved overwhelming. By halftime, Bayern had already stormed to a 6-0 lead, with goals from Kingsley Coman (2), Sacha Boey, Michael Olise (2), and Thomas Muller.

In the second half, Jamal Musiala replaced Harry Kane and wasted no time making an impact. The young German star bagged a hat trick, and veteran Muller found the back of the net once again, rounding out the final 10-0 scoreline in a thoroughly dominant performance.

The gulf in class between the two squads was reflected in their market values. According to Transfermarkt, Auckland City FC’s current roster is valued at just €4.58 million, with captain Mario Ilich their most valuable player at €275,000. By contrast, Bayern Munich’s squad is valued at a staggering €903.5 million—highlighting the sheer disparity on display.

Bayern Munich make Club World Cup history

Since the FIFA Club World Cup‘s inception in 2000, Bayern’s 10-0 demolition of Auckland City stands as the largest margin of victory in the tournament’s history. As just the second match in the expanded 32-team format, it also sets the tone for the competition’s new era.

The previous record was held by Al Hilal, who defeated Al Jazira 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the 2022 edition. That result helped the Saudi side reach the semifinals, where they were later knocked out by Chelsea, who would turn into the eventual champions.

While the 2025 Club World Cup is only getting underway, Bayern Munich have already written a chapter in the record books—a result so emphatic, it may prove difficult for any team to top.
