Despite his strong start to the season, Christian Pulisic has seen a noticeable drop in his level, leaving AC Milan without significant scoring power. For this reason, they have decided to strengthen their attack, holding serious plans to sell some stars. Following this, the Rossoneri reportedly maintain several priorities to reinforce their offense, with Darwin Núñez emerging as an option for the 2026–27 season.

According to Antonello Gioia, via Corriere dello Sport, the Rossoneri are open to transferring Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Giménez, as they have not managed to show a consistent level with the team. In addition, they are determined to let Niclas Füllkrug leave, who arrived on loan and has not made a clear impact in terms of scoring. For this reason, coach Massimiliano Allegri could receive a reinforcement in attack, with several options on the table.

While Dušan Vlahović and Moise Kean are the most closely followed options by the front office, AC Milan could face difficulties in signing them due to their high cost. In this context, they are exploring the possible arrival of Robert Lewandowski, but Barcelona look to extend his contract. With this in mind, the Rossoneri have decided to look toward more affordable options such as Nicolas Jackson, Corriere dello Sport reports.

Beyond these not being the only alternatives, the Rossoneri have turned their attention to Saudi Arabia, targeting the arrivals of Mateo Retegui or Darwin Núñez. While the Italian would be a complex signing due to his high salary and transfer fee, the Uruguayan could be a simpler option, as he is not in Al Hilal’s plans and has been left out of the league. Given this, they could push for his arrival, with Juventus also competing, as per Antonello Gioia.

Darwin Núñez could be a risky move for AC Milan

Darwin Núñez has gone from being one of the most promising strikers to disappointing with his performances. Despite arriving at Liverpool for €85M (around $100M), the Uruguayan failed to impress with the Reds, leading to him losing his starting spot and being transferred. Far from regaining his best level at Al Hilal, he only played 24 matches, scoring 9 goals. Following this, they signed Karim Benzema, leaving him out of the Saudi Pro League squad.

Although he is under contract until 2028, Darwin appears determined to leave Al Hilal, pushing for a return to Europe. While the Rossoneri are pursuing his signing, the Uruguayan’s level raises more doubts than certainties. Without a consistent scoring output in recent years, he may not be an immediate solution, as he would need to regain competitive rhythm and then rediscover his best form.

If Darwin manages to shine at the 2026 World Cup, the Uruguayan could silence the lingering doubts about his scoring ability, as he already led his national team in the CONMEBOL qualifiers. Nevertheless, he would still need to adapt to Serie A and to Massimiliano Allegri’s system, which raises further concerns given his lack of competitiveness in recent seasons.
