Neymar’s next move is once again a major topic of speculation as the Brazilian superstar edges closer to the end of his short-term deal with Santos. After a difficult spell in Saudi Arabia, he returned to his boyhood club to regain fitness and form, but with his contract set to expire on June 30, the 33-year-old forward is once again being linked with a blockbuster return to Europe.

With reports suggesting that both Barcelona and Bayern Munich have been approached regarding a potential transfer, the possibility of Neymar playing for a European giant again has only fueled anticipation. However, Santos president Marcelo Teixeira has now spoken about the superstar’s situation, offering a crucial insight into where his future may lie.

Despite suffering a serious ACL injury that derailed his spell at Al Hilal, Neymar has shown glimpses of his brilliance since returning to Brazil. His performances have not gone unnoticed, and with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the forward is eager to prove he still belongs at the top level.

His agent, Pini Zahavi, has already begun exploring potential European destinations. According to a previous report from Sport, Zahavi has proposed Neymar’s return to Barcelona and also discussed the possibility of a move to Bayern Munich. For now, however, a move to the Premier League is not on the table. Neymar’s preference is clear—he wants to play for a club that competes for major trophies and plays attacking soccer.

Zahavi’s influence could play a significant role in this saga. The agent has strong ties with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, having previously orchestrated Robert Lewandowski’s transfer from Bayern to Barcelona. He was also instrumental in bringing Hansi Flick to the Catalan club. However, while Barcelona remains a dream destination, the veteran’s return is far from straightforward. The club’s financial struggles and previous legal disputes with the player could complicate any potential deal.

What did Santos’ president Teixeira have to say?

With growing speculation about Neymar’s next move, Santos president Marcelo Teixeira has finally addressed the situation. Rather than hinting at an imminent departure, Teixeira emphasized Neymar’s current happiness and dedication to Santos.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, he stated: “The hardest part is already over, which was having him here. We’ll see the club’s technical response and results. We’re working on sponsorships… he’s already shown that he’s not worried about the financial aspect.”

Teixeira made it clear that Santos is eager to extend the former PSG star’s stay, although he acknowledged that external factors could influence the player’s decision. “The entire technical committee accompanied him to his matches; everyone supports Santos, the entire country. And that will influence the possibility of him staying here in the near future. The national team has called him back.”

His words strongly suggested that Neymar is currently committed to Santos and fully focused on his performances. Teixeira reiterated multiple times that the Brazilian star is: “Happy, he’s joyful, focused on being an important factor at Santos.”

While financial considerations often dominate transfer discussions, Teixeira revealed that Neymar’s decision is not being driven by money. The forward has earned astronomical wages throughout his career, and his future move will likely be dictated by his personal ambitions rather than financial incentives. “Santos cannot match the economic offers Neymar has received from clubs outside Brazil. This is a matter of feeling.”
