Which Premier League Teams Will Get Relegated?

With almost 20% of the season completed, we already have a good idea of which clubs will shine and underwhelm this 2008/2009 Premier League season, as well as which ones are destined for mid-table mediocrity.

Sure, we still have 80% of the season remaining, but out of the clubs you’ve seen thus far, which ones do you believe will end up being relegated?

Here are my three picks:

  • 18. Tottenham Hotspur — Unless something massive happens, which would be the sacking of Juande Ramos, Spurs are destined for a terrible season with a team of dispirited players with no leader and no strike partnership,
  • 19. Fulham — The Craven Cottage side is looking worse this year than they did last season, and that’s saying something. I fail to see who will rescue them this season on the pitch.
  • 20. Stoke City — Stoke won’t go down easy. They still have plenty of fight in them although ultimately they’ll get relegated because of a lack of a proven goalscorer. Dave Kitson is not going to do it for them.

Former MLS team president says pro/rel would benefit US soccer

Promotion and relegation is one of the most controversial topics in American soccer. Everyone has thoughts and conversations often get heated. Most of us are speaking just as fans though. Our points of view are just as informed or ignorant as everyone else’s. That’s not true in the case of Tim Bezbatchenko. Bezbatchenko spent years […]

Tactical naivety spells danger for Southampton and Ipswich

Tactical naivety spells danger for Southampton and Ipswich

Last October, Southampton and Ipswich Town were strong contenders for Premier League promotion, sitting 5th and 2nd in the Championship table. Both teams earned praise for attractive styles of play led by young, ambitious managers. Kieran McKenna and Russell Martin, both 38, are still in charge of their respective clubs. Yet, neither has managed to […]

Second-tier soccer leagues come out top for greatest jeopardy

Second-tier soccer leagues come out top for greatest jeopardy

Soccer leagues with promotion and relegation in place certainly add to the jeopardy and excitement. After all, teams essentially have to fight to remain in top leagues in open divisions rather than face possible relegation. Dropping down to the second tier not only takes clubs out of the running for major titles but it also […]

Why Manchester City has 8/1 odds to be relegated this season

The hearing regarding Manchester City's 115 rule violations begins in just a few weeks. Premier League officials previously charged the reigning English champions of breaching financial fair play (FFP) rules 18 months ago. The complexity of the case, however, has created lengthy delays. In the meantime, other Premier League sides such as Everton and Nottingham […]
