Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar has been recalled to Queens Park Rangers following a brief loan spell with MLS side Toronto FC.
Cesar represented his country in every match during this summer’s World Cup with his standout performance being in Brazil’s penalty shootout win over Chile.
Despite struggling to find a regular starting position at QPR last season and being shipped off to Canada, the 34-year-old stepped into the global spotlight by saving two Chilean penalties as the host country went on to win the shootout 3-2.
After Brazil crashed out of the World Cup with two consecutive losses, Cesar retired from international soccer.
The goalkeeper originally joined QPR from Inter Milan in August 2012, signing a four-year deal with the Premier League club. But Cesar couldn’t stop the London club from being relegated that season.
Once in the Championship, Robert Green became the first-choice goalkeeper for Harry Redknapp.
Cesar was then sent on loan to Toronto FC in February 2014.
In a club statement, Toronto said: “We’d like to thank Julio for everything he brought to our club. He made an immediate impact.”
