Premier League Sunday: Aug. 19, 2012

Christopher Harris

On the first Sunday of the Premier League 2012-13 season, we have Wigan versus Chelsea (8:30am ET on FOX Soccer) followed by Manchester City against Southampton (11am ET, also on FOX Soccer).

On paper, these should be two comfortable wins for Chelsea and Manchester City, but I wouldn’t discount either Southampton or Wigan Athletic. While the task for Southampton is an extremely difficult one, I’m hoping that they can put on a display similar to what Swansea did one year ago (even though the Swans lost 4-0). Let’s see how well Southampton deals with the pressure, and if they still have the confidence to spray the ball around the pitch.

Over at the DW Stadium, how will this new-look Wigan Athletic play against a turbo-charged Chelsea side who, to be honest, are desperate for a win (the last one coming several weeks ago against an under-strength Seattle side).
