Christian Pulisic is set to remain on the sidelines for about two months with a knee injury. Chelsea head coach Graham Potter revealed the disappointing news about the American during a press conference on Wednesday. The USMNT star injured his knee in the first half of a matchup with Manchester City last week.

“Christian’s going to be out for a couple of months we think. Hopefully it will be less, but that’s the timeframe there,” stated Potter.

Pulisic knee injury is the latest spell of bad luck

Pulisic has had a tough time with injuries and illnesses since joining the Blues back in 2019. In fact, the winger has already missed over 40 total matches due to various setbacks during this time. Assuming Pulisic is out for a few months, this number would increase to well over 50 games.

The recent knee injury is, however, Pulisic’s first time being unfit during the current campaign. He had been in a recent healthy streak since March. The attacker previously missed 16 matches during the 2021/22 season because of COVID-19 and an ankle injury.

Along with an update on the American, Potter also gave insight into Raheem Sterling’s injury as well. The England international was injured during the same match as Pulisic. “We think Raheem will be out for less time than Christian,” continued the coach. “We’re still evaluating the actual extent of it, but hopefully it will be less than that.”

Nine key players out with knocks for Potter

Chelsea is currently in a bit of an injury crisis at the moment. The Blues will be without at least nine total senior players for their short trip to Fulham on Thursday. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ben Chilwell, Reece James, N’Golo Kante, Armando Broja, Wesley Fofana, and Edouard Mendy all join Pulisic and Kante on the sidelines.

The Blues brought in Joao Felix on Wednesday to help give the club a boost in attack. Chelsea is sitting 10th in the Premier League table at the moment, three points behind their next opponents Fulham.
