Manchester City are preparing for a significant squad overhaul following a disappointing 2024-25 season, which saw them fall out of the Premier League title race and suffer an early exit in the UEFA Champions League playoffs. With Pep Guardiola planning a rebuild for next season, the English club has reportedly set its sights on a Real Madrid star.

Guardiola’s future at City was uncertain earlier in the season, but in November 2024, he committed to a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2027. With his long-term future secured, Guardiola is now focused on reshaping the squad — a process that has already begun with several moves in the winter transfer window.

According to Sky Sports‘ Florian Plettenberg, Manchester City are targeting Eduardo Camavinga for a summer transfer. The Real Madrid midfielder has reportedly been added to City’s shortlist, with the club actively monitoring him as a key signing for the future.

Camavinga has become a vital figure for Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, showcasing impressive versatility by excelling both in midfield and as a left-back. This adaptability has reportedly caught Guardiola’s attention as he looks to strengthen his squad. With an estimated market value of €80 million (per Transfermarkt), Manchester City will likely need to make a significant investment to secure the 22-year-old’s services.

Camavinga’s agency could play a key role

While City’s financial power is unlikely to be a hurdle — especially with players like Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan nearing the end of their contracts — Camavinga’s agency could be a crucial factor in the deal.

As reported by Plettenberg, Camavinga is represented by CAA Stellar, an agency that maintains strong ties with Manchester City. The same agency was instrumental in facilitating Omar Masrmoush’s mid-season move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Manchester City, which could give the English club an advantage in negotiations.

Despite being contracted with Real Madrid until June 2029, Camavinga’s future could hinge on his role within the squad. If he’s relegated to a substitute role at the Spanish giants, a move to Manchester City could offer him the ideal opportunity to establish himself as one of the world’s best midfielders at just 22 years old.
