As the World Cup draws to its conclusion and the sun sets on South Africa, the Premier League owners will be opening their chequebooks, pulling out their pens and scribbling down fees to prize some of world football’s hottest talents to the glitz and glamour of England. There have been many stars of this World Cup in 2010 and the question is, how many of them are ready for the big time?
The first target comes from Germany. Mesut Oezil’s pace, precision and all-round attacking prowess makes him a top target for any team. In Germany’s first group game against Australia, he completely destroyed them with his link up play and his movement. His bullet volley against Ghana and the fact that he made Gareth Barry look like a League One slugger further enhanced his glowing reputation. Expect him on a flight to England as soon as the World Cup concludes and signing on the dotted line at either Chelsea or Manchester City.
Next up is Milos Krasic. The CSKA Moscow and Serbian star wideman has impressed with his skill and crossing ability in the tournament, as Serbia were eliminated. He contributed the cross for the Serbian winner against Germany in the group stages and tormented and teased the left backs from Ghana and Australia. The 25 year old has been linked with Manchester United, since his performances against the club in the Champions League. Krasic himself has said he would love a move to Juventus, but that deal is not finalised so he is still a wanted man by United and also, Manchester City.
The other main talking point was the form of Danish central defender Simon Kjaer. The Palermo defender has been the talk of so much speculation recently after some highly impressive performances in the tournament. Kjaer is only 21 and has a huge future ahead of him, which would be further enhanced if he made the rumoured switch to Old Trafford, where Sir Alex Ferguson also holds the keys to one of the World Cup’s hottest strikers, Javier Hernandez.
Other honorable mentions should go to Holland right back Gregory van der Wiel for his attacking prowess in the Holland side’s run, Slovenian midfielder Valter Birsa for his ingenuity and guile in a poor Slovenian side and hardman Mexican left back Carlos Salcido, who after four years of graft in the PSV side, finally gets the recognition he deserves. I would expect a lot of World Cup talent to sign on the dotted line of an English team and they would be worthy additions to any club looking to maintain their European status or push up into the European places.
