In one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer storylines, Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez appears to be nearing a major decision on his future. With speculation mounting over whether the Uruguayan forward will opt for Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Saudi Pro League or Christian Pulisic‘s Serie A, the soccer world waits for clarity. Both Ronaldo’s rival, Al-Hilal, and Pulisic’s Milan have expressed strong interest, but one is beginning to emerge as the frontrunner.

Earlier this summer, Milan’s new sporting director, Igli Tare, outlined a clear ambition: to provide head coach Massimiliano Allegri with a top-class striker to complete his attack. Among the many names floated, Darwin Nunez stood out as the club’s primary target. The 26-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022, remains an attractive option despite a mixed spell in the Premier League.

While the Rossoneri have reportedly held initial talks with Liverpool and the player’s representatives, they have yet to submit a formal offer. Their preferred formula involves a loan with an obligation to buy, allowing them to spread the financial burden of a potential $75-81 million deal. However, budgetary constraints and competition from wealthier clubs have complicated negotiations.

“Milan are focused on other operations at the moment,” Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel“but Nunez has been proposed to them. They’ve evaluated the situation, but there is no official bid yet.”

What has Nunez reportedly decided?

Behind the scenes, Nunez has reportedly made a major decision about his next destination, and it’s one that could reshape the trajectory of his career. While Milan offers him the chance to play in a competitive European league and feature in the Champions League, the offer on the table from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia appears to be financially irresistible.

“Nunez has given his initial approval to speak with Al-Hilal,” Romano confirmed. “There’s still no agreement on the contract yet, but the deal with Liverpool wouldn’t be an issue.”

Reports indicate that coach Simone Inzaghi has spoken directly to the Uruguayan, outlining a clear vision for his role at the club. The Blue Waves are prepared to meet Liverpool’s valuation and have submitted an official contract proposal, which the striker’s representatives are now discussing. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Saudi club has “accelerated internal plans” to sign Nunez as their priority striker target.
