Rodrigo De Paul has been Inter Miami’s marquee signing of the 2025 summer transfer window, bringing both depth and European pedigree to the squad. However, his absence from Tuesday’s training session raised concerns among fans, prompting head coach Javier Mascherano to address the midfielder’s availability.
With his contract set to expire at Atletico Madrid in 2026, De Paul’s deal wasn’t going to be renewed, opening the door for his move during the 2025-26 season. Inter Miami aggressively pursued the Argentine international, finalizing a transfer worth around €15 million—just shy of his release clause.
Speaking at Tuesday’s press conference, Mascherano provided an update on the midfielder’s situation. “He can’t train with the group. He’s training separately on his own, not through the club. He has been training over the past few weeks and is in good physical condition,” he coach said.
As Inter Miami gears up for its Leagues Cup debut on Wednesday, Mascherano revealed that paperwork is the only hurdle preventing De Paul from officially joining full team activities: “As soon as everything related to his permits to work and play here is in order, we’ll bring him into the squad.”

De Paul arrived in the U.S. on Thursday, July 24, but is still awaiting his P-1 visa, which is required for him to be officially registered. Mascherano confirmed that the midfielder would be eligible for the squad list against Atlas—provided his visa is cleared in time on Tuesday.
