When Erik Lamela was a precocious 12-year-old on the streets of Buenos Aires in Argentina, the TV crew from Trans World Sport met up with him to ask him about his role model, dreams and aspirations.

The revealing interview discusses how Barcelona tried to sign him as a youngster for a salary of more than $100,000 a year, as well as how River Plate were able to convince him to stay with the club.

As a 12-year-old, Lamela said that “One day, I’d like to play abroad in England, France or Spain. I’d prefer to play in Spain because the people speak my language.”

Even as a youngster, you can see how determined and bright the Tottenham Hotspur star was.

“My dream is to win the World Cup for Argentina, just like Diego Maradona,” said Lamela. “I was born to play football.”
