5 new clubs were admitted to the US Development Academy Program, bringing the total to 79 for 2009.

Did anyone notice that MLS clubs started play in the 2009 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup? The Rapids eliminated the Galaxy on April 7 in a shootout after playing to a scoreless draw. Next up, defending champion DC United face FC Dallas on April 22.
