Serie A Roundup - Week 27

This weekend witnessed impressive hat tricks from 2 players that heated up their matches.  In Milan, veteran striker Pippo Inzaghi scored his hat trick with 7s in mind.  Scoring goals in the 7th, 71st, and 74th minutes to give Il Rossoneri a big 3-0 win over Atalanta to tighten their grip on 3rd place.

The other hat trick happened in Bologna as Marco Di Vaio distanced himself from his rivals for the title of Capo Cannoniere.  His goals were crucial in keeping Bologna out of the relegation zone and the 3-0 victory over Sampdoria snapped Bologna’s 5 game winless streak.  Di Vaio’s hat trick came at the expense of a Genoese side who were coming off a massive midweek 3-0 win of their own against Inter in the 1st leg of the semis of the Coppa Italia.

The pursuit of 4th place and the last Champions League spot did not get any clearer as Genoa & Fiorentina lost at home by 2-0 scorelines.  Genoa at the hands of Inter Milan and Fiorentina falling to Palermo.  Roma failed to fully capitalize when they drew 1-1 at home to Udinese.  Roma did pull even with Genoa in reaching 5th place as both Roma & Genoa trail Fiorentina by 1 point.
