The buzz surrounding the 2025 Liga MX vs. MLS All-Star Game in Austin is growing—not just because of the talent on display, but also due to high-profile absences that may impact the spectacle. Now, questions are being raised about Sergio Ramos‘ availability following his latest training sessions with Monterrey.

Lionel Messi has already stolen headlines on the MLS side, with coach Nicolás Estévez still uncertain about his involvement. Meanwhile, Liga MX All-Stars coach André Jardine has growing concerns of his own—this time regarding Ramos.

The veteran Spanish defender was expected to join the Liga MX All-Star squad in Austin, alongside his Monterrey teammate and fellow countryman Sergio Canales. But with no official word and no sign of Ramos traveling, his appearance is now in serious doubt.

Rather than boarding a flight to Texas, Ramos was seen training on both Monday and Tuesday at Monterrey’s El Barrial facility. With less than 48 hours until kickoff at Q2 Stadium, the fact that Ramos remains in Mexico only adds to speculation about his status.

The 2025 MLS All-Star vs. Liga MX All-Stars Game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, at Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium, where the best of MLS and Liga MX are set to clash. What was once billed as a potential reunion between Sergio Ramos and his longtime rival-turned-teammate Lionel Messi has now been put in jeopardy.

Liga MX All-Stars to miss two other starters

With fan votes and league organizers aiming to assemble the best possible lineup, the Liga MX All-Star squad was designed to feature the league’s top talent. While Sergio Ramos remains a question mark, two other key players have already been ruled out.

Coach André Jardine will be without two Club América standouts: Sebastián Cáceres and Henry Martín. Both were expected to be in the starting lineup for the high-profile matchup against the MLS All-Stars, but injuries have forced them to withdraw.

Cáceres was injured during the Campeón de Campeones clash against Toluca after taking an accidental kick from goalkeeper Luis Malagón, leaving him sidelined for the All-Star Game. Meanwhile, Martín is still recovering from an injury that kept him out of Club América’s early Apertura 2025 matches, making his absence another blow to the Liga MX roster.
