In a joint interview with SPORT and El Periódico, Marcus Rashford expressed his excitement about his first weeks at Barcelona, where he arrived this summer on loan from Manchester United. The English forward joined a team that already lifted three trophies last season, and he believes they have the foundation to achieve even more. For him, the ultimate target is clear: winning the Champions League.
“This team has the base to win the Champions League. If not, they wouldn’t have won three titles last year. The mentality and motivation are high, and I see no reason why we can’t compete for every trophy. For me, this team is ready to win. I just want to contribute in any way I can. Soccer is unpredictable, but with this squad and staff, the mindset is strong enough to face any challenge,” Rashford emphasized.
Rashford highlighted that his adaptation to Barcelona’s soccer has been smoother than expected. He considers Barça the best possible environment to improve. “On the pitch, I’ll learn more with every game. But the starting point is already excellent. The more matches I play, the more I’ll grow. Barcelona is the easiest place to both enjoy and learn soccer,” he said. For Rashford, happiness and winning go hand in hand: “The main reason I play is to win. And to win, I need to feel happy. That’s when I deliver my best soccer.”
Praise for Lamine Yamal and Pedri
The forward has been impressed by the young talent around him, especially Lamine Yamal, who he believes has all the tools to win the Ballon d’Or. “As a person, he’s just 18, always laughing, joking with teammates. But as a player, he’s top-class. The most surprising thing is how mature he is for his age—how he thinks and plays. He’s well ahead of his years. If he doesn’t win the Ballon d’Or now, he definitely will in the future.”

Rashford also spoke highly of Pedri, calling him another standout teammate. “If you didn’t know his age, you’d think he was 28 or 29. He’s that mature and reads the game so well. He plays at his own rhythm, which makes it easy for forwards to link with him.”

Confidence in Hansi Flick’s leadership
Finally, Rashford praised new coach Hansi Flick, who was instrumental in green-lighting his loan move. “He’s very direct and communicative, which is crucial with so many young players. His motivation to go beyond last season’s success is clear. He’s a special coach who knows how to manage special players.”
