The same source who first broke the news of Lionel Messi’s departure from Barcelona, Ramón Álvarez de Mon, has now revealed details of the new deal being negotiated for the Spanish winger. Far from being a modest contract, the deal is expected to reflect Yamal’s rapid rise—with Jorge Mendes pushing for ongoing negotiations and performance-based improvements.
Álvarez de Mon, a Madrid-based lawyer and Real Madrid member known for credible reports on soccer business, was the first to confirm Messi’s 2021 exit. Now, he has disclosed the figures being discussed for Yamal’s new contract. While Joan Laporta will have the final say, the pressure is mounting.
According to Álvarez de Mon: “Lamine Yamal is very close to reaching a renewal agreement with Barça. He would earn €30 million gross per season, plus a €10 million gross renewal bonus annually. That brings his net salary to about €20 million per year.”

The length of the contract is still under negotiation—either until 2030 or 2031—with potential review clauses starting in 2026 based on performance targets. As of now, the 17-year-old is only contracted until 2026 due to age restrictions under FIFA regulations.
Negotiations won’t be easy for Barcelona, especially with presidential elections just over a year away and pressure mounting on Laporta. Mendes is reportedly advocating for a structure similar to Messi’s final years at the club—where contracts were reviewed and adjusted annually. Yamal’s camp currently holds a strong position after the player’s standout season.
If the proposed terms are finalized, Yamal would become the third-highest earner in Hansi Flick’s squad, trailing only Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski. The Dutch midfielder currently earns around €23 million after tax, while the Polish striker makes close to €25 million.
The club, meanwhile, is planning an offseason tour of Asia in an effort to generate revenue—underscoring how carefully this contract must be structured from a financial standpoint.
