Lamine Yamal labeled with a single word by Barcelona teammate Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona this summer from Manchester United, in one of the most high-profile transfers of European soccer in 2025. As he works to settle into his new team, the English forward offered thoughts on his teammates—delivering a brief but impactful definition of Lamine Yamal.

This week, Rashford appeared on The Rest is Football podcast. After the interview, he recorded a short video with podcast co-host and former Barcelona player Gary Lineker, in which he was asked to describe his new teammates based on his early experiences since arriving in Catalonia.

Robert Lewandowski was the first name mentioned. “Classy,” Rashford said, a fitting word for the Polish striker who has scored over 700 goals in his professional career. A similar tone followed with Pedri, whom Marcus described as “elegant.”

Continuing with Barcelona’s young core, Gavi was labeled “fiery,” a description that clearly resonated with Lineker. Pau Cubarsi, already a star for both club and country at just 18, was called “mature.” Jules Kounde was described as “strong,” while regarding Fermin Lopez, Rashford said, “He floats, he’s a floater.”

Marcus Rashford also praised Robert Lewandowski.

How did Rashford define Yamal?

One of the last names on Gary Lineker’s list was Lamine Yamal. Marcus Rashford didn’t hesitate, calling him “special”—an undeniably fitting word for the young winger, who just days after turning 18 is already considered by many the best player in the world and a finalist for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

Marcus Rashford defines himself

As expected, the video—shared on Barcelona‘s official social media accounts—closed with Gary Lineker asking Marcus Rashford to describe himself in one word. After a short pause, the former Manchester United star answered: “Exciting.”

Barcelona fans would likely agree with that sentiment. While Rashford’s form had dipped in recent times, leading to a diminished role at Manchester United and a loan spell at Aston Villa, he remains one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards. Now starting a new chapter in Spain, the hope is that he can rediscover his top level and become an ideal complement to the superstars leading Barcelona’s attack.
