Koeman Gets Sacked

Sometimes players are as good as their last game. Well, I guess that is why Ronald Koeman said goodbye today. Valencia looked hungover from their midweek Copa del Rey title as Athletic Bilbao beat them into submission and brought them back to the reality that was this season for Los Ches. Their 5-1 loss at San Mamés was the final nail in the proverbial coffin.

According to As ,Koeman came into the club offices Monday evening to sign his walking papers after a long meeting between the Valencia brass. His assistants, José Marí Bakero and Tony Bruins, followed suit later on in the evening.

For Valencia they finally realized that the Koeman era was not the solution to what was going on during the Quique Sánchez Flores era. Even though there was some type of silverware added to the trophy case as well as a UEFA Cup spot, there was more bad than good left by the former Ajax and PSV coach. He left a Valencia with no soul and quite splintered after he forced players such as Santiago Cañizares, David Albelda, and Miguel Ángel Angulo out the door. More importantly, Koeman decided on going with a youth movement with players like Ever Banega and Hedwiges Maduro only to keep them off the lineup for the Copa del Rey final against Getafe.
