Inter Miami CF have expressed interest in signing Club América winger Brian Rodríguez ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup to play alonside Lionel Messi, according to ESPN.

FIFA has approved a special transfer window from June 1 to June 10, allowing participating teams to strengthen their squads before the tournament kicks off on June 14. However, MLS clubs must still comply with league salary cap and roster rules.

Following Miami’s 4-2 win over CF Montréal on Wednesday night, head coach Javier Mascherano reiterated what he said prior to the match regarding potential reinforcements.

“I didn’t give the club a list of names,” Mascherano explained. “I told them which positions need to be strengthened, especially after selling Robert Taylor and Julian Gressel. The reality is we have a relatively short roster. As a coach, my job is to point out what the team needs. Then it’s up to the club to explore names and assess possibilities based on our budget.”

Mascherano had previously noted the need to bring in wingers before the Club World Cup, while acknowledging how difficult new signings could be under current league restrictions.

Earlier this week, he also revealed that due to limited squad depth, he asked David Ruiz and Fafa Picault not to join their national teams for the Gold Cup so they could stay with Inter Miami for the tournament.

A move for Rodríguez would give Mascherano an additional attacking option. The Uruguayan international tallied four goals and three assists in 13 Liga MX Clausura matches, despite missing time with a left abductor injury.

Rodríguez was unavailable for the first leg of Club América’s Liga MX final against Toluca but came off the bench late in the second leg, as América lost the series 2-0 on aggregate.

If signed, Rodríguez would return to familiar territory in MLS. He previously played for LAFC from 2019 to 2021, helping the club win the Supporters’ Shield in 2019.
