Inter Miami has officially announced the signing of William Yarbrough, a 36-year-old goalkeeper and two-time Liga MX champion with León. The experienced shot-stopper, who also played in MLS with the Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes, joins the club as a free agent. His arrival helps fill the gap left by Drake Callender, who is recovering from hernia surgery, and provides depth behind starting keeper Óscar Ustari and Rocco Ríos Novo.

Yarbrough had been without a team since January, following a one-year stint with the Earthquakes. He expressed his excitement about joining the club, highlighting the opportunity to contribute his experience and help Inter Miami reach its goals this season.

From Mexico to MLS: A career of experience

Born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, to American parents, Yarbrough began his professional journey in Pachuca’s youth system. In 2012, he transferred to Club León, where he spent the bulk of his career and became one of the league’s standout goalkeepers. During his time there, he helped León win two Liga MX titles (Apertura 2013, Clausura 2014) and gained recognition for his consistent performances.

International career with the U.S. National Team

After acquiring U.S. citizenship, Yarbrough made his senior debut for the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2015, earning a total of three caps. Despite his early development in Mexican soccer, he chose to represent the United States internationally, adding a unique layer to his career.

A new chapter alongside Messi and on the global stage

Yarbrough has already made his mark in MLS, with notable spells at Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes. Now, as a free agent, he steps into one of the most high-profile opportunities of his career: teaming up with Lionel Messi and competing in the FIFA Club World Cup. At 36, it’s a major milestone in a journey marked by perseverance and top-flight experience.
