The Argentine television program “Nosotros al Mediodia” has shown a video which appears to show legendary footballer Diego Maradona hitting his ex-girlfriend Rocio Oliva.
Oliva secretly filmed the episode which shows the former Argentina international shouting at her for using her mobile phone and then apparently hitting out at her twice.
The Spanish newspaper El Mundo reports that Maradona was intoxicated while speaking to his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend in an aggressive manner before physically assaulting her.
According to Argentine journalist Marina Calabro, Maradona admitted to being the man in the video and said he threw Oliva’s phone to the ground. However, he insists that he did not hit his former partner.
“I sent the phone flying but I swear by my children that I never raised my hand to a woman. The story starts and finishes there,” the 53-year-old Argentine said.
Maradona started dating Oliva in 2013 and was engaged to the former women’s footballer earlier this year.
Sports Illustrated is reporting that Oliva has previously accused Maradona of domestic violence. The 24-year-old woman can be heard shouting for the former footballing great to ‘stop hitting me’ in the video.
