Cristiano Ronaldo wrapped up the 2024–25 season with Al Nassr on Monday, as his side fell 3–2 to Al Fateh in their final Saudi Pro League match. Following the game—and amid swirling speculation about his participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cupthe Portuguese icon posted a cryptic four-word message about his future.

Al Nassr’s season fell short of expectations, finishing without a trophy for a second straight year. The club also failed in the last game to qualify to the next edition of the AFC Champions League, in another huge blow for the team’s aspirations in the short term.

Without international competition next season, and his current deal expiring in June 2025, Cristiano Ronaldo took on his social media to deliver a subtle message about his future. “This chapter is over,” wrote Ronaldo on an Instagram post.

While the post sparked speculation, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner followed it with a reassuring message that seemed to rule out retirement. “The story? Still being written. Grateful to all,” Ronaldo ended his message.

Ending his chapter” at Al Nassr, Ronaldo is expected to depart the Saudi Arabian club after 111 appearances, scoring 99 goals—just one shy of the century mark—and providing 19 assists. Despite only securing an unofficial trophy—the 2023 Arab Champions Cup—the Portuguese forward earned his second Golden Boot in the Saudi Pro League this season.

Rumors have swirled in recent weeks following FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s remarks during a livestream with iShowSpeed, suggesting “Ronaldo might play for one of the teams at the Club World Cup.” This sparked speculation about a potential short-term move to one of the participating clubs.

Spanish outlet Diario AS reported that Liga MX side Monterrey made a formal approach to sign Ronaldo exclusively for the Club World Cup on a one-month deal. This reunion would pair Ronaldo with former Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos, who could play a key role in the negotiations.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s future remains uncertain as his contract runs through June. However, with FIFA opening an extraordinary transfer window from June 1 to 10, multiple clubs have the opportunity to pursue Ronaldo. The player also has the option to terminate his contract with Al Nassr and join as a free agent—opening the door for a range of possibilities.
