Sadio Mane has been issued a fine and a suspension following an altercation with a teammate. The star forward punched Leroy Sane in the mouth after Bayern Munich’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday. The duo were seen arguing on the pitch in the latter stages of the match. And then the feud apparently spilled over into the dressing room after the game.

Bayern returned to Germany Thursday morning after the defeat in England. Mane and Sane boarded separate vehicles after landing back in Munich. The lasting effects of the fight were still noticeable days later. After the squad touched down, Sane was seen on video attempting to cover up his swollen lip.

Club issues official ruling on consequences of fight

Both players returned to training as usual on Thursday afternoon and were even seen smiling. However, Mane also met with team officials to discuss the incident. The club announced on Thursday that he has been fined and will serve a one-match suspension.

“Sadio Mane, 31, will not be included in the FC Bayern squad for this Saturday’s home match against 1899 Hoffenheim,” the statement read. “This is due to his misconduct after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City. Mané will also be given a fine.”

Bayern suspend Sadio Mane: Club could sell him this summer

Sky Sports Germany reported earlier in the day that the club could also sell the player this summer or even go as far as terminating his contract. Mane only arrived to Bayern last summer in a deal worth around $33 million. Along with the significant investment in the player’s transfer, Bayern also reportedly pays Mane about $21 million annually. This would make terminating his current contract unlikely.

Despite the incident, there would seemingly be plenty of potential suitors should Bayern put the star up for sale. Nevertheless, the German giants will be hoping that the issue is behind both players and they can move on. Mane is obviously a talented player and would be very useful for the club.
