Adidas and the Scottish Football Association have unveiled a special Scotland 150 years anniversary kit. The shirt celebrates their momentous sesquicentennial anniversary.

Scottish Football Association’s Twitter account for the national team teased the new shirt with a post on Thursday, showing off the elegant design:

The baby blue top is accented with white collar and sleeve cuff trim. Thin navy stripes adorn the sleeve cuffs. The standard Adidas trimmings – shoulder stripes and right-chest logo – are rendered in a shimmering navy treatment. This gives it a subtle, classy look, highlighting the team crest and not so much the manufacturer. This is a classic Scotland shirt through-and-through.

Speaking of the crest, it has a similar style, with only the main lion rendered in metallic gold embroidery. The rest of the crest is done in the same navy-on-navy style as the Adidas marks. Those crest details include a circular frame that includes “150 Years” and the dates 1873 and 2023.

The inside collar features a gold version of the full anniversary crest, with the dates flanking either side.

It’s expected the team will debut the new shirts next month in their upcoming Euro qualifier matches. Scotland also released a quality video highlighting those 150 years of history and showing off the refined 150 Years crest at the end:

Reviewing the Scotland 150 years anniversary kit

Overall this is a very fine effort. Understated but refined, it’s a sharp design that focuses on the long history of the team with no unnecessary gimmicks from the manufacturer. The subtle color-on-color treatment of the makers’s marks lets the national colors and badge shine first and foremost. For what it’s worth, that’s how it should be on every kit, not just special retro or anniversary designs.

I can’t really complain about anything on this one.

Grade: A
