Several of the stars of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup have been names that we’ve been familiar with before the tournament kicked off — athletes such as Megan Rapinoe, Hope Solo, Marta and Christine Sinclair. But some of the unsung heroines who have come to our attention are women off the field — the commentators, presenters and analysts who have been enhancing our experience of watching the games on television.

Standout stars from the TV broadcasts so far have included Kate Abdo, Jenn Hildreth, Kyndra de St. Aubin, Monica Gonzalez, and Ariane Hingst, among others. They’re the type of professionals who are not only passionate about the sport and the games, but they’re able to point out things we missed, or to give expert opinions about key decisions in games that help us appreciate the sport (and the athletes) even more.

It these individuals, among many, that are an inspiration to future generations of soccer announcers. In years to come, we’ll not only remember seeing the images of crucial goals from the Women’s World Cup in our heads, but we’ll remember the great calls too.

These memories that are created now will last for our lifetime.

Or, you can create your own.

Thanks to technology, you can now mute your TV and create your own live audio broadcast of a game in order to create lasting memories. It’s easy to do. All you need is a computer, mic and an Internet connection. With those, you can visit a website such as Rabble.tv and get started.

Imagine asking one of your friends or family members to do a live audio broadcast of a game with you, and then have tens or hundreds of people listening in as they enjoy your broadcast. It’s those type of experiences that are not only fun, but addictive.

Whether you’re young, middle-aged or older, it’s never too late to begin doing an audio broadcast of a game — of your favorite club, national team or player. It’s an opportunity to share your passion and, who knows, maybe build the roots that may end up turning into something even more substantial in the future even if it’s a local radio station or local broadcasting channel.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and after listening to interviews with tens of commentators, you’ll learn that most of them started their careers by watching soccer games, turning down the volume and then recording the broadcast. In today’s age, the benefit is that you can do it in front of a small to mid-size audience and they’ll often share feedback on how well you’re doing.
