As Milan wrapped up a successful preseason tour across Asia and Australia, capped off by a 9-0 win over Perth Glory, the focus naturally shifted to tactical improvements, new signings, and expectations under returning manager Massimiliano Allegri. But amidst all the tactical insights and squad rotation, one moment stood out above the rest: a quiet but powerful gesture of professionalism from Christian Pulisic that set the tone for the Rossoneri’s return to Milanello.

With pre-season absentees Luka Modric and Santiago Gimenez joining the group, Allegri has a blend of youth, talent, and experience at his disposal. But it’s Pulisic, now entering his third season at the club, who is emerging as an unlikely symbol of leadership — not just through his play, but through action.

The preseason tour saw the Italians face a mixed bag of opposition — a narrow 1-0 loss to Arsenal, a thrilling 4-2 win over Liverpool, and the final demolition of Perth Glory. Despite the friendly status of these matches, Allegri made key changes to Milan’s defensive and offensive systems. Gone is the high press and aggressive backline from the Pioli era — this new squad is more compact, reactive, and versatile.

As the squad returned to Milanello after a few days’ rest, players were expected back after lunch. But one player showed up well before that — Christian Pulisic. According to MilanPress, the American winger was the first to arrive at the training center, entering the gates before 10:00 AM (CET), nearly four hours ahead of the scheduled report time. The gesture was subtle, but significant: a player who could’ve taken time to rest instead chose to lead by example.

It’s especially telling considering the 26-year-old had missed the final friendly against Perth Glory due to a minor knock picked up in the match against Liverpool. His early arrival could have been for treatment, but also reflected a commitment to staying ahead physically and mentally as the new campaign looms.

Modric mania begins — and Gimenez gets to work

Luka Modric, who officially joined the Red and Blacks after departing Real Madrid, made headlines upon his arrival in Italy. Fans greeted him warmly at the club shop, where he posed for photos and signed autographs before reporting early to training, just like Pulisic. The veteran Croatian, a Ballon d’Or winner and five-time Champions League champion, is expected to be a cornerstone of Milan’s midfield this season.

CONCACAF Gold Cup winner Santiago Gimenez also reported early for duty. Known for his tireless work rate, the young Mexican forward spent his vacation training privately to improve his fitness and sharpness ahead of his first season in Serie A.
