Joan Garcia has not ruled out FC Barcelona as one of his possible future destinations once his departure from RCD Espanyol is confirmed. The current Espanyol goalkeeper left all options open—including the doors of the Spotify Camp Nou—in an interview preview from Catalunya Ràdio’s ‘Tot Gira’ program, which will air in full this coming Sunday.

“In soccer, every other day there’s news, there are rumors. That it becomes reality… that’s not always the case. But like I said, I’m very calm, and whatever decision needs to be made, I’ll think about it carefully with my people and choose what’s best for me… and I’m sure it’ll be the right one,” the keeper explained when asked about the possibility of joining Barça.

Facing Espanyol wouldn’t be a problem. It would actually be nice. These are things that can happen, but I try to look at the positive side of things, and if it happens, I’d embrace it with excitement.” Joan Garcia spoke to CatRàdio after receiving the Dani Jarque Award as Espanyol’s best player for the 2024/25 season.

Under contract with Espanyol until June 30, 2028, Garcia’s €25 million release clause makes him an appealing option for top European clubs. After securing the team’s survival under manager Manolo González, the Catalan goalkeeper is eager to take the next step in his professional career. Additionally, Espanyol is actively looking to make a significant sale this summer to gain financial flexibility in the transfer market and strengthen the squad.

Within this context, FC Barcelona has emerged in recent hours as a possible destination for the Espanyol shot-stopper. The sporting department, led by Deco, believes that—regardless of Wojciech Szczęsny’s final decision—they must begin planning for the future in goal. Marc-André ter Stegen is now 33 years old and recently recovered from a serious knee injury.
