Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has had to pull out of Germany’s squad to face England tomorrow. Ozil has been given the time off to rest after training sparingly last week prior to Germany’s friendly against Italy. Germany’s coach wants to give other footballers an opportunity to play, so he’s sent Ozil home along with Lahm and Neuer.
German national team manager Joachim Low said:
“The England game is our last chance before the World Cup to try out one or two new tactical variations and personnel.
“Philipp Lahm, Manuel Neuer and Mesut Ozil are part of the absolute backbone of our team and for me, it is more important now to give other players a chance to prove themselves in these key positions, particularly against such a strong team as England.”
Ozil’s departure from the Germany squad doesn’t appear to be related to any type of injury, which is good news for Arsenal fans considering that the club plays Southampton this Saturday.
