Earlier this week the British tabloids were reporting about a potential bidding war between Arsenal and Manchester United over the much sought-after Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva. The 21-year-old is one of the brightest prospects in South America and has been on the radar of a host of European clubs.

The Sun reported on Tuesday that Arsenal representatives had flown to Brazil in order to make contact with the player. While Metro claimed that United had already been in contact with Silva’s representatives, but had yet to make an official bid on the player.

But today Silva has confirmed news that his “dream” is to play for Real Madrid.

The midfielder told Brazilian television that the Spanish club has been in contact with his representatives, though the player doesn’t believe he will leave Brazil until the completion of the Copa Libertadores.

Speaking to Arena SporTV, Silva said: “I don’t know what they are going to propose, whether they want me in the middle of the season or at the end and I stay for the Copa Libertadores.”

“I still don’t know what will happen, but it would be interesting to stay for the Libertadores and then join up with the rest of the players for pre-season.”

“Negotiations are still open but if they do take shape it will be a dream to play for Madrid.”

Cruzeiro have already won the Brasileiro league title and Silva was named the best defensive midfielder in the division, with its season concluding next weekend.

Though the player “dreams” of playing for Los Blancos, the timing may not be right for a move to Madrid, with the La Liga giants boasting a wealth of midfielding options this season. But Sami Khedira is reportedly on his way out of the Spanish capital later this summer, which means the club could bring in the young Brazilian at that time.

Silva has been linked as a replacement for the German international at Real Madrid for some time in the Spanish press.

Although, strong interest from Arsenal and Manchester United in January could test the ten-time Champions League winners’ interest in the prized Brazilian midfielder.

Since Real Madrid would still have midfield options ahead of Silva next season, both English club’s could lure the 21-year-old with big money offers and/or the promise of first-team football.
