Match Of The Day presenter Gary Lineker has come a long way since his TV appearances in the early 1990s when he hosted a show entitled “Soccer In The 70’s.” The former England and Everton striker was, at the time, uncomfortable in front of the camera. And very stiff. Thankfully he’s improved over time, but it is interesting to take a look back at two excerpts from the show.
The first one, featured above, contains Chelsea legends John Hollins and David Webb as well as Leicester City goalkeeping legend Peter Shilton. In the video, it features highlights of goals scored by Peter Osgood, Charlie George and others. And during the interview portion, Lineker asks Hollins and Webb what it was like playing at Chelsea in the 70s, especially their memories of the FA Cup games against Leeds United.
As for the second video excerpt, see below, Lineker interviews Jimmy Case, Mark Lawrenson and Alan Mullery. It’s a rare treat because we get to see Brighton and Hove Albion, hardly a team that gets much of a mention on this site lately, and the incredible success they achieved under manager Alan Mullery including the club’s time in the old First Division.
