Friday's Bundesliga Review: Dortmund Thump Hamburg As Run Continues

The Young Japanese Has Been A Fantastic Signing For Dortmund.

Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund side look nothing short of imperious after another convincing victory. Their incredible domestic form has led them to the Bundesliga summit, where they sit seven points clear of second placed Mainz. Did anyone see this coming?

Klopp’s side have really come to fruition this season, and they look capable of walking away with the Bundesliga at this rate. His reliance on younger players has paid off, and his squad has really taken shape. Sven Bender and Nuri Sahin have been nothing short of fantastic in midfield, and up front Dortmund have been a revelation with Kuba, Mario Gotze and Shinji Kagawa supporting the powerful and clinical Lucas Barrios. I also think that Dortmund have the best center-half pairing in the league in the form of Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic, so that’s obviously been a real help as well. Their ability to remain solid in defense and still attack with so much fluidity has been a particular highlight, and they’ve been a joy to watch this season.

Hamburg’s inconsistency continued against Dortmund, but an away game at Signal Iduna Park is hardly a match any side will be expecting to win this season. The high-flying Shinji Kagawa, who has probably proved himself to be the transfer of the summer, opened the scoring just after half-time. With Hamburg playing so defensively, they hardly threatened Dortmund and only registered a single shot on target. Dortmund killed the game off through Lucas Barrios, and the three points puts them in an incredible early position. Surely they can’t blow it?
