Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in the Saudi Pro League in December 2022 marked a turning point in global soccer, drawing high-profile talent to the region and transforming the landscape of the league. Now, with fewer than three months remaining on his current deal, the Portuguese icon has reportedly made a final decision regarding his future with Al Nassr.

In an effort to elevate its soccer profile, Saudi Arabia made a bold move by offering Ronaldo a reported €200 million contract—one of the richest in sports history. That deal is set to expire on June 30, sparking speculation about a potential return to Europe or even a reunion with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

According to Marca, Ronaldo is poised to accept a contract extension with Al Nassr that would keep him at the club until 2027. If finalized, the extension would see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner playing until age 42. Negotiations began in January, with key financial and sporting details still being ironed out—including Ronaldo’s vision for continuing his career at the highest level.

The report adds that Ronaldo’s new salary is expected to exceed the €200 million from his initial contract. One of the conditions for renewal reportedly included Al Nassr building a more competitive squad capable of challenging for major trophies in the coming years.

The recent addition of Real Madrid legend Fernando Hierro as the club’s sporting director suggests a commitment to that goal—and to Ronaldo’s influence extending beyond the pitch, potentially as a minority owner.

Can a two-year extension get Ronaldo to 1,000 goals?

While trophies remain important, one milestone continues to dominate the conversation around Ronaldo’s career: the elusive 1,000-goal mark. With a potential new deal running through June 2027, fans are wondering if that would be enough time for the all-time great to reach the historic figure.

Since joining Al Nassr, Ronaldo has scored 96 goals and provided 19 assists across all competitions. His career tally now stands at 933 goals. With 38 goals already in the current campaign, maintaining this form across club and country could realistically put the 1,000-goal milestone within reach before his contract expires.
