Altidore to Join Hull City on One-Year Loan

@jozyaltidore17

American striker Jozy Altidore has confirmed that he will be playing for Hull City this season, and that a press conference to announce the deal will take place on Thursday afternoon.

ESPN is reporting that move is not a transfer, but rather a one-year loan designed to get Altidore more playing time against top competition. As I wrote here yesterday, Altidore was most likely to get more playing time with the Tigers, who are thin up front, than with Fulham or Everton. Hull’s current group of forwards — Daniel Cousin, Craig Fagan, Caleb Folan, Nicky Featherstone and Ryan Kendall — combined for only 8 goals in 64 Premier League appearances last season. Marlon King, who was on loan from Wigan Athletic for half of last season, added 5 goals in 19 league starts, good enough for second in team scoring behind Geovanni, who scored 8 goals.

Hull City is also expected to announce the signing of Nigerian midfielder Seyi Olofinjana from Stoke City in tomorrow’s press conference. The Tigers’ first match is away to Chelsea on August 15, which will air in the USA at 7:45 AM Eastern Time on Setanta Sports. American soccer fans will either be getting up very early or setting their DVRs to see a few battles between Altidore and John Terry.

Before Balogun, who was USMNT's last consistent goalscorer?

Folarin Balogun brings the expertise of a true goalscorer to the USMNT. His lethal nature in front of goal is exactly what the United States is in need of. Even before kicking a ball for the national team, it's safe to say that he is likely to be the first USMNT true goalscorer we've had […]

USMNT Must Avoid A Letdown After Their Promising World Cup

Usually in football when your recent form is two draws and two losses, questions start to be asked of the manager in question. But with the current US National Team, surprisingly that’s not the case. In a sport that is usually so trigger happy, Jurgen Klinsmann has skated while his team has suffered. Now this […]

Sunderland's August-September Progress Report

Sunderland's August-September Progress Report

Sunderland have enjoyed a mixed start to the Premier League season thus far with Gus Poyet's men sitting in a worrying 15th position in the table despite having earned draws against Louis van Gaal's Manchester United as well as Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks. Unfortunately these two excellent results have had their respective gloss taken […]

Don’t Sleep On The Tyne-Wear Derby Between Sunderland and Newcastle

For most Premier League viewers in the US, this week’s version of ‘Super Sunday’ is all about the matchup between big money clubs, Chelsea and Manchester City. There are actually four other BPL matches on Sunday, two of them are on at the same time as Chelsea-City: Tottenham-Hull City and Swansea City-West Ham United. It’s […]
