Arsenal continued their amazing recovery as they moved into the top five for the first time this season and moved above Manchester City into second in the form table.
Arsenal’s 0-4 thrashing of lowly Wigan saw them grab a points return of 7.92, their second highest score of the season. The Gunners’ brief spell in the bottom three is now a distant memory as they move above Newcastle and Liverpool, and closer to those above them. Wigan’s short stint away from bottom position didn’t last long as their defeat, and Blackburn’s victory, meant that Roberto Martinez’s team are now beginning to look adrift of those above them.
Blackburn fans finally have something to shout about as they scooped their highest total of the year. Eclipsing their previous best of 5.71 in their only other win, Yakubu’s four goal haul gave Rovers 6.36 points as they overcame Swansea.
It’s not much of a surprise now to see Manchester City win by a large margin, but it also isn’t surprising to see them concede a late goal. Nevertheless, a four goal winning margin is always going to score well, and 7.46 points is above their average of 6.77. When Steve Morison scored after 81 minutes, City were looking at a 6.38 return, but after two late goals, that total increased by 1.08 points. Despite slipping in the form table, City remain top of the APL by some distance as they once again outscored their nearest rivals.
Chelsea’s three goal win at fifth placed Newcastle made them the big winners of the week with an incredible 9.01 points. Things weren’t looking so good when Frank Lampard missed a first half penalty, but three unanswered goals away from home against a top five team moved Chelsea up two places into fourth.
Fulham currently sit 8th, despite only winning three games, two fewer than Stoke who sit one place below them. Fulham don’t win often, but when they do they have a knack of scoring big; 6.91 points against Wigan, 9.03 points against QPR and now 6.54 points against high flying Liverpool. The win moved them from 12th to 8th and made them the team closest to breaking into the run away top seven.
- Biggest Score: Chelsea 9.03 points
- Lowest Score: Swansea 1.18 points
- Best draw score: West Brom 3.56 points
