Despite elimination from the 2014 World Cup, The English FA are still fully supportive of manager Roy Hodgson. Hodgson’s contract extends until 2016, and with qualifiers for the 2016 European Championship around the corner, the FA has no desire to change coaches. Feeling he has assembled the best English side in years, FA Chairman Greg Dyke spoke highly of Hogdson, “We think Roy has done a good job and it is an approach over four years and we hope to do better in the European Championships.”
Hodgson didn’t mince words about the disappointment of this World Cup
“We’ve worked so hard and done so much preparation for this tournament. We think we came here well prepared. But we’ve failed. We obviously had really big hopes we were going to make the nation proud by going far in the tournament and we haven’t done that. So any words on the other subjects are pretty empty at the moment.”
Although England disappointed in Brazil Hodgson is optimistic about their chances going forward, “I believe the team going forward will be a very good team,” said Hodgson when speaking about his team after their second defeat against Uruguay. His job not only extends to the senior team but to the development of England’s youth as well and his ability to promote talent to the senior team such as Raheem Sterling and Ross Barkley proved valuable.
Meanwhile Spain who have also been eliminated will keep faith with Vincent Del Bosque who led his nation to the 2010 World Cup title as well as a Euro 2012 triumph. Jorge Pérez, Spain’s director of football, told radio station Cope today regarding Del Bosque’s future
“From top to bottom in the federation we are all behind Del Bosque. If we have the best coach around, why would we change? He won’t be affected by the criticism. His family might convince him to leave, but we aren’t going to find anyone better. Del Bosque has not resigned. If he does, we will try to convince him to stay.”
Del Bosque has not addressed his plans yet but will meet with the Spanish Federation after the final group match against Australia.
