Vinicius Jr.’s contract demands for his future with Real Madrid are nothing new. As reported by Mundo Deportivo back in February, the Brazilian forward is seeking a significant upgrade in salary to match the club’s top earner, Kylian Mbappé. Currently under contract until June 30, 2027, Vinicius earns approximately €15 million net per season.
Until January 2027, he cannot negotiate a departure from the club without informing Real Madrid, meaning any interested party must go through president Florentino Pérez or his right-hand man, José Ángel Sánchez.
The core of Vinicius’ request lies in aligning his pay with Mbappé, who not only earns €15 million per season in base salary but also receives a signing bonus after arriving on a free transfer. That bonus, worth €40 million net over five years, adds roughly €8 million annually to his income, bringing his total to €23 million net—or €46 million gross—per season.
At this point, Real Madrid is not entertaining such figures for Vinicius. Matching Mbappé’s salary would mean nearly a 50% raise from his current deal—something the club is reluctant to offer, especially after a season in which Vinicius’ performance declined noticeably.

Cristiano Ronaldo sets toughest challenge yet for Mbappé at Real Madrid
In 2024–25, he played 58 matches and scored just 22 goals: 11 in LaLiga, 8 in the Champions League, and the rest spread across the Club World Cup, Intercontinental Cup, and Copa del Rey. His numbers faded further in the final stretch of the season, standing in stark contrast to Mbappé’s 44-goal campaign that earned him the European Golden Shoe.
With that in mind, the club is not ruling out a potential sale of Vinicius should a major offer arrive—although triggering his €1 billion release clause remains unthinkable. The coming weeks could prove pivotal as the Brazilian prepares his next move in what appears to be a high-stakes standoff with the club.
