websiteAccording to The Independent newspaper, MyFootballClub will announce that an agreement has been made with a club from the BlueSquare Premier (aka Conference National, which is one league below League Two in England). The newspaper dropped a major hint by mentioning that the club in question has never played in the top four divisions of English football before and has aspirations of being promoted to League Two.
That rules out Cambridge United, Aldershot, Torquay, Exeter, Kidderminster, Northwich Victoria, Oxford, Rushden & Diamonds, Halifax and York. All of those clubs have played in the Football League before.
That means that one of the following clubs is the mystery team that MyFootballClub will purchase: Altrincham, Burton Albion, Crawley Town, Droylsden, Ebbsfleet United, Farsley Celtic, Forest Green Rovers, Grays Athletic, Histon, Salisbury City, Stafford Rangers, Stevenage Borough, Weymouth or Woking.
So which club is it? We don’t know. MyFootballClub has done an excellent job at keeping the secret under wraps, but despite the fact that they’ve been in discussions with Cambridge United and Halifax Town – among others – it can’t be one of those clubs if the major hint dropped by The Independent is true.
EPL Talk will take an educated guess to determine who the mystery team is. The pioneer behind MyFootballClub is Will Brooks who is a die-hard Fulham fan and lives near Craven Cottage. Since he’ll be a main part of the MyFootballClub endeavor, it’s safe to say that the club is probably near London (otherwise Brooks would have to uproot his life).
Based on that assumption, that would rule out the following teams who are scattered far from the London area: Droylsden (near Manchester), Altrincham (near Manchester), Burton (near Derby), Farsley (near Leeds), Salisbury (near the south coast), Forest Green Rovers (in Gloucestershire), Histon (near Cambridge) and Stafford (near Stoke).
The remaining clubs that are possibilities for ownership are therefore: Crawley Town (located near Gatwick Airport), Ebbsfleet United (in Gravesend, near London), Grays Athletic (near Southend), Stevenage Borough (near Luton) and Woking (southwest of London).
We can rule Stevenage Borough out because former England u-21 manager Peter Taylor is now in charge of the club and I don’t foresee a manager like Taylor agreeing to allow fans to pick his team.
That leaves four possibilities. Crawley, Ebbsfleet, Grays and Woking.
And last but not least, consider
Woking who is the only club in the top 15 ‘
most voted‘ clubs by members of MyFC that is in the Conference and that has never played in the Football League before.
Which one could it be — or is EPL Talk way off on its educated guesses? We should learn today (Tuesday) when MyFC is anticipated to make an announcement.
